Position Summary:
The Academy Trainer will be responsible for both the care and prevention of athletic injuries for the NBA Academy. They will attend all Academy training sessions and matches. Duties involve evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries, education around injury management and prevention and building resilient and competent athletic movement patterns in athletes. In addition, this position is expected to document treatments and training sessions in the athlete management system with the goal of injury prevention, maximizing performance and student education.
Major Responsibility:
- Treat all Academy players appropriately and promptly
- Manage Academy athlete injury status and maintain communication with the Performance Director, Academy Technical director, Academy coaches, and players parents or guardian as well as other appropriate medical professionals
- Travel with the academy team for away matches as indicated
- Comply with all NBA medical policies and protocols
- Maintain proper documentation for all academy treatment and rehabilitation needs with the athlete management system
- Actively collaborate with the Performance Director, Academy performance staff, Academy physician, and coaching staff to plan, execute and monitor return to play protocols
- Maintain a positive attitude to help the players succeed in their goals
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- NATABOC (or CATA) Certified Athletic Trainer
- Current CPR certification
- SFMA certification preferred
- Display superb communication & organizational skills
- Possess personal professional liability insurance
- Minimum one (1) years certified athletic trainer experience in a sports environment, preferably with basketball experience
Education:
- Minimum four (4) year college/university
- Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or Health-Related Field Master's Degree in related health care field preferred
- Master's degree (or higher) in athletic training from an accredited program preferred
- Have tuberculosis screening, measles and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu and hepatitis B immunizations
